A NOTE FROM ME
Long weekend ahead. There are two home games tonight, a farmers' market Saturday, and the county's had a couple of quiet good-news weeks that deserve a mention. Happy Labor Day, Caroline County.
GOOD NEWS IN CAROLINE
The Town of Bowling Green made a quiet hire worth knowing about: for the first time, the town has a dedicated capital projects and grants manager. The new role means there is now someone whose whole job is tracking down funding opportunities and managing infrastructure projects for the town. Small towns often leave grant money on the table simply because no one has bandwidth to apply for it. Bowling Green is trying to change that.

SCHOOL & LIBRARY
A new administrator is leading Lotus Academy: Dr. Melissa White has been named to the role. The announcement went up quietly on the CCPS site; passing it along for families connected to the program.
If you have little ones, two recurring programs are worth putting on your calendar. Mother Goose Storytime (ages 0-2) runs Tuesdays at 10am at Ladysmith and Thursdays at 10am at Bowling Green. Preschool Storytime (ages 3-5) is Thursdays at 10am at Ladysmith and 10:30am at Bowling Green. Both are free. For ages 6 and up, LEGO Club meets every Thursday from 5-6:30pm at Ladysmith, LEGOs provided.
Also worth knowing: all branches are closed this Monday, Sept. 7 for Labor Day. And September is Library Card Sign-Up Month. If your kid does not have one yet, now is the time. (carolinelibrary.org)
AT THE COUNTY
One practical note for anyone who does business with the Town of Bowling Green: Town Hall has permanently moved to 113 Courthouse Lane. The temporary location during repairs is now the permanent one. Worth knowing before you drive to the old address.
ONE FUN FACT ABOUT CAROLINE
Carter Braxton, born and raised in what is now Caroline County, signed the Declaration of Independence in 1776 as one of Virginia's delegates to the Continental Congress. He is among the less-celebrated Signers, but his name appears on the same document as Jefferson, Adams, and Franklin. The King's Mill estate where he grew up is in the county. Not bad for a place people sometimes think of as a pass-through on Route 1.
