A NOTE FROM ME
The second week of school is nearly behind us! The buses are running, the backpacks are broken in, and August is doing what it always does: slipping away before we’re ready. There is a lot of good news out of Caroline schools right now!
GOOD NEWS IN CAROLINE
Caroline County's youngest students just got a federal boost! The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services awarded $1.1 million to Caroline County for its Head Start program, announced August 14 by Rep. Eugene Vindman. Head Start covers early childhood education, health, nutrition, and family support for kids who need it most.
The money comes at a good time. On Monday, the School Board also approved a Corrective Action Plan to sharpen the Head Start program's safety, communication, and staff support practices.

SCHOOL & LIBRARY
Big week at CCPS! The School Board unanimously approved two new career-technical partnerships at Caroline High: one with Allan Myers, a construction engineering company, for a utility and heavy construction course starting this Fall, and one with M.C. Dean for Electrical I and II courses coming in 2027-28. Seventeen students currently in Carpentry III will move directly into the construction track. Allan Myers is donating supplies for year one.
Also Monday: the board voted to bring back valedictorian and salutatorian honors at graduation, starting with the Class of 2027. The recognition had been dropped more than a decade ago; students asked for it back this past May.Fredericksburg Free Press

AT THE COUNTY
The Planning Commission meets Thursday, Aug. 27 at 6:30pm at the Community Services Center Auditorium in Milford. The Carmel Technology Campus rezoning (the Luck Stone project) is back on the agenda after a deferral in July. The meeting is open to the public. Caroline County Board of Supervisors
FUN FACT ABOUT CAROLINE
Mildred and Richard Loving, the couple whose case became the landmark 1967 Supreme Court ruling that struck down interracial marriage bans in 16 states, were from Caroline County. They were married here, arrested here, and fought for nine years just to live at home together in their own county. They are buried here. The Lovings did not set out to make history. They just wanted to stay.
